On the latest episode of Most Craved, we’re talking about franchises and how they maintain relevancy over the years
Whether it’s Star Wars, Transformers, DC Comics or any other franchise brand among thousands, there’s a lot in a name. But could that name have an expiration date? On the latest episode of Most Craved, Jenna Busch of Legion of Leia joins our own Silas Lesnick for a chat about franchise branding and the way various properties connect with their respective fanbases through big and small screen adaptations. Check it out in the player above!
Does a franchise’s relevance just have to do with the quality of the film, or is there a bigger issue at play? In 2015, we’ve seen some new franchise adaptations like Goosebumps and The Peanuts Movie meet with very positive reactions, while others, like Jon M. Chu’s big screen take on Jem and the Holograms, were DOA at the box office. Then there’s next month’s highly-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is planned as the first of at least six annual Star Wars films. Is Star Wars a franchise that can keep going forever or is there going to be a point where audiences get tired of a galaxy far, far away?
As a fan, what do you feel are the most enduring and rewarding franchises? Are there any franchises that you’ve loved in the past and have simply grown tired of? Let us know in the comments below!
