Sony has dubbed this June 8th to be Ghostbusters Day, as the 35th anniversary of the original movie rolls around. Fan fever is so infectious now that even Bill Murray has started talking about getting involved again. Diamond Select made a lengthy, comprehensive line of action figures from both original movies in recent years, but Playmobil made a huge impact by taking on the property as its first outside live-action movie license. This year, they’re expanding the line of new Ghostbusters toys in a way that’s explicitly targeting collectors, as well as kids.
Funko recently licensed the Playmobil style for larger figures based on characters like Doctor Who and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Playmobil clearly saw the market and realized they could just do that themselves. Therefore, for the first time the company is putting out 6-inch licensed collectible figures based on the original four Ghostbusters. They come in window-box packaging for display, and in-app codes for the Ghostbusters World mobile game. Each has a limited run of 12,500 pieces, featuring a price tag commensurate with the small-run nature, at $49.99. Fans who prefer classic Playmobil scale can get a set of four in the 2-3/4 inch scale for $19.99. (They were previously only available as pack-ins with vehicles and playsets.)

Also new for this year is the Ecto 1A from Ghostbusters II. Unsurprisingly, as in the movie, it redecorates the original Ecto 1 vehicle. For added value, it includes all four Ghostbusters in their sequel outfits, with slime blowers. These along with a “playmogram” prism (originally sold separately) that utilizes your smart device to create a 3D illusion of ghosts being sucked into a trap. At $59.99, this may be the best deal of all.
