Ghostbusters Monopoly Will Combine ‘Bustin’ With Going Bust

Once Hasbro took over the master toy license for Ghostbusters, moving it into the board games division seemed inevitable. And now, if there’s something strange in the neighborhood, it’s because the player bought it. That’s right: Ghostbusters Monopoly is on the way. We can expect it to hit most retailers by this weekend, allowing players to bankrupt apparitions before the month is through.

In lieu of houses and hotels, players collect ghost traps and containment units. Tokens include obvius bits of equipment like ecto-goggles and a PKE meter, as well as less obvious items like Dana Barrett’s cello and Janine’s glasses. Roaming Vapor cards and ECTO-1 and Supernatural Entity spaces liven up the gameboard. Meanwhile, landing on a Supernatural Entity space has players teaming up to battle Slimer, Stay Puft, Library Ghost, or Vinz Clortho. (Where’s Gozer?)

Ghostbusters garners frequent praise from libertarians as a pro-capitalist movie, so the fusion with Monopoly feels natural. Only this time, no Walter Peck shows up to shut down the fun. The opponents, as in any Monopoly game, are one’s rival investors. No word on whether you see Elvis, and if so, how is he.

The game retails for around $29.99. Be ready to believe that, and don’t let any gatekeepers prevent a purchase. Listen…do you smell something?
