Storm Collectibles Expands Deluxe Line of Golden Axe Action Figures

Who would have thought that in 2021, one of the most detailed action figure lines would be based on Sega’s Golden Axe? Storm Collectibles, mostly known for making toys of all the top fighting games — Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, and even DC’s Injustice — took a chance, and it paid off. Using their generic muscle body, they made the Ax Battler protagonist, and packaged him with a dragon to ride. And it sold so well that they’ve started making more. Introducing the wonderfully named Gilius Thunderhead and his steed, Chickenleg.

Maintaining the original 16-bit game’s simple and bold color scheme, Storm adds detailed sculpting and poseability. Gilius also includes two different head sculpts. Previously a fairly generic fantasy dwarf, he’s a lot more distinct in this form. The warrior and his steed go for $134.99 at sites like Entertainment Earth. And while he’s advertised as 1:12 scale, he’s really closer to the same 7-inch scale of current Super7 and NECA Ultimates figures.

In addition, Storm will offer two exclusive repaints as Comic-Con exclusives via U.S. distributor Bluefin. Starting at 9 a.m. Pacific time on July 22, bluefinbrands.com will unleash an exclusive green and purple Death Bringer, and an ashen-colored Skeleton two-pack. The skeletons have seen multiple repainted releases before, while the original red-and-flesh Death Adder is pre-sold out at most sites. The repaints offer a new chance to own these incredible sculpts.
