Igor, or Ygor, is seldom thought of as an A-list Universal Monsters character, though it’s from those classic movies that he originates. Initially played by Bela Lugosi in Son of Frankenstein, Ygor debuted as a deranged grave-robber with a broken neck, who commanded the monster to do evil deeds. In the years since, he’s been amalgamated with Dr. Frankenstein’s original hunchbacked cinematic lab assistant, Fritz. And NECA‘s newest figure reveal continues that treatment. Per their description, “Introducing Leonardo as Ygor the Hunchback! He’s the brains behind the Monster… and has the jar to prove it.”
Leonardo normally leads the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so it’s a surprise to see him take a subservient role. But it suggests, perhaps, that the whole first wave will go Frankenstein-related, following Raphael’s reveal as the monster. Tech nerd Donatello would make an ideal Dr. Frankenstein, and April might become a distinctive Bride.
