Longbox Heroes Figures Bring ’80s Toy Style to Indie Comics Faves

Any fans of Kenner’s Super Powers action figures from the ’80s should dig what Fresh Monkey Fiction and ToyOtter Toys have created in the form of Longbox Heroes. In classic 5-inch scale, with seven points of articulation (knees included!) this line brings several familiar faces back to toy form, along with some newcomers.

Even superhero fans who’ve never read an indie comic in their life will recognize some of these. The Tick and the Rocketeer once made waves with tie-ins in other media. Madman, Grendel, and the Goon sport distinctive profiles that always made their covers memorable and eye-catching. Cassie Hack and Mr. Monster may seem like slightly deeper cuts, but they vary the aesthetic up a bit. In addition, two new villains for the Rocketeer join the line: Black Phantom and Onslaught Trooper. All that’s missing is “Power Action” leg-squeezing punch action.

There’s just one catch — each individual figure must hit a minimum preorder. Exclusive to BigBadToyStore, the $24.99 figures can be reserved through Sept. 5. With McFarlane Toys currently revisiting the actual Super Powers line with new figures and vehicles, the style feels very in vogue. Collectors of either line can stage inter-comic battles like never before.
