It’s not quite playable, but a damned impressive build regardless. Today is the 43rd anniversary of Pac-Man, and LEGO will pay tribute with a new collector set featuring the original game in all its glory. Pac-Man and LEGO have long shared a connection, as the game’s creator, Toru Iwatani, was inspired by LEGO to make Pac-Man yellow.
Wakka-wakka-wakka
The LEGO Icons Pac-Man Arcade, as the set is officially called, reproduces the top part of the game’s arcade cabinet. Turn the crank on the side to watch the characters move onscreen and simulate gameplay. Activate the light brick to make the coin slot illuminate. Build larger figures of Pac-Man, Blinky, and Clyde for the top of the set, then rotate them to turn the tables and reveal the ghosts’ edible mode. Open up the back of the cabinet and reveal a minifig build of a female gamer on a scaled mini-arcade machine.

Per its official press release, “The model measures: 12.5 in. (32 cm) high, 10 in. (25 cm) wide and 7 in. (17 cm) deep.” It consists of 2,650 pieces, and will be available to all on June 4th at a recommended retail price of $269.99. LEGO VIP members can purchase early on the 1st.
If this sells well for them, and the partnership with Bandai Namco continues, there are plenty of other places to go with the deal. Baby Pac-Man, with its pinball machine below and video game up top, could be an intensely elaborate build. Or perhaps they could do Mario-style interactive sets from the side-scrolling Pac-Land games.
