Super7 to Make Dungeons & Dragons Cartoon-Based Ultimates

There’s a lot of nostalgia love out there for the ’80s Dungeons & Dragons cartoon. In it, a group of kids from our world go on a carnival dark ride that turns out to be a portal into the world of D&D, where they are fashioned into champions by a powerful Dungeon Master.

Hasbro made a line of figures based on the cartoon last year, but they were plagued by complaints of loose and breakable joints. The characters even had a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in the live-action movie. Like many other Hasbro properties, however, Dungeons & Dragons 7-inch figure rights have now passed into the hands of Super7, who’ll be adding them to the Ultimates lineup.

Party on, Adventurers

The figures are up for preorder at Super7’s site, and also up at most online retailers. As usual, ordering a complete set directly from Super7 will net you a bonus pack, which in this case includes “glow variants of Hank’s bow and arrow and Dekkion’s sword, as well as a real metal version of Dekkion’s Circle of Power!.”

The first wave — of many, fans must hope, in order to get all the main characters — includes Hank the Ranger, Sheila the Thief, Dekkion (Skeleton Warrior) and a Shadow Demons 2-pack. Each figure, even the two-pack, costs $55. Sheila includes a cloth invisibility cloak, and all come with extra hands. All but the shadow demons include alternate heads as well.

Some fans may be skeptical of ordering, not wanting to begin a line that may not continue, but so far, the track records of every Hasbro property made into Ultimates have been good. Transformers, Power Rangers, and G.I. Joe have run several waves already. And if any company might ever make the giant enemy Tiamat, it would be Super7.
