Ever since Filmation made its He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series in the ’80s, Orko the magician has been He-Man’s comical sidekick. Though his moral compass usually held true, his magic did not. Exiled from Trolla, where his sorcery worked, to Eternia, where it rarely did, he learned to be humble. Later incarnations have seen him choose to stay on Eternia rather than return to Trolla, and the recent Masters of the Universe: Revelation saw him die and reincarnate, Gandalf-style, as a more powerful wizard in full control. In that telling, we also learned that “Orko” was baby-talk for his true name, “Oracle.”
“Until Next Time!”
Throughout most incarnations, however, one thing has remained constant: he hides his face behind a scarf, and nobody ever sees his legs. There’s been some question whether he even has any. Mondo’s new 1:6 scale action figure promises to settle that debate now. According to them, Mattel granted the company permission to reveal Orko’s legs for the first time ever. All this and more will feature in their timed-edition version of the figure, available from today, Tuesday, 1/23, at 12 NOON CT until Tuesday, 1/30, at 11:59 AM CT.
Orko runs $235 like other Mondo Masters of the Universe, but is that fair for such a smaller character? It is with all the extras thrown in. Orko comes with two bonus figures, and hover stands for them. One is a classic Filmation, Orko, and the other is his cartoon love interest, Dree Elle. He also comes with a small sidekick figure of Daimar the demon. Orko himself includes three heads: one fully unmasked, one with animated-style eyes, and one with yellow slit eyes, looking more like the evil “unnamed” Trollan known as Gorpo. Orko also includes ten swappable gesture hands, two magic effect hands, and his plush toy.
A clear flight stand keeps him in hover mode; apparently, the legs will be revealed only to those who buy the figure. As far as what the rest of him looks like, we have official images below.
