A month ago, on February 1st, Hasbro‘s G.I. Joe team busted out a bunch of digital renders of upcoming figures and one vehicle. This week, all of those went up for preorder at most online toy retailers, with two exceptions. One is the HMS missile system with red Techno-Viper. Designed as a trailer for the HISS tank, that one is a Hasbro Pulse exclusive and costs $74.99. Tiger Force figure repaints are, of course, Target exclusives, so keep your eyes out there for the new Roadblock and Tripwire two-pack. Jinx, Doc, Torch, Gnawgahyde, and Night Creeper should be up almost everywhere else.
Ferreting Out the News
In terms of new offerings, the G.I. Joe team mentioned that future figures would include Dial-Tone, SAW Viper, and Frag Viper. As for the reveals, the big one was a Cobra Ferret ATV, with a new female Cobra scout trooper.
The other figural reveals were all retro-carded repaint figures, in one case with fewer accessories to take him down from a deluxe set to a regularly priced army builder. That would be the Cobra Snow Serpent, who does still include his snowshoes. (In keeping with Cobra’s often preposterous designs, he includes goggles to go over top of a full face shield, like the Vipers.) For undersea squads, the Cobra scuba troopers known as Eels also return in brighter colors on the throwback cards, and the Joes get a repainted Beach Head.
That still leaves us waiting for the retro-card reveal everyone really wants, which is the original Cobra Commander. A version of him based on early “error” prints came with the HISS tank, causing fans to speculate the figure body would have to be used again for a non-error version, much as the Glenda figure coming with the Dragonfly helicopter Haslab has already been repurposed for a retro card Scarlett. Still, no confirmation so far.
When it comes to the figures up for preorder now, though, we have lots more pictures. Behold them all below:
