In the ongoing quest by Nickelodeon to mash up the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with every other conceivable toy line out there (Star Wars Turtles, when?), they’ve partnered with Mattel to make WWE Turtles. There’s actually a long history of wrestling, both ripping off and partnering with the heroes in a half-shell, from Sheamus and Kevin Nash appearing in the movies to a few misbegotten matches in turtle suits. So one could argue this makes more sense than, for example, the Stranger Things figure sets. Playmates previously made versions of the Turtles in WWE gear; this new line flips the script with wrestlers dressing as Turtles and their foes and allies.

The Target exclusive line will come in two waves of three. Wave 1 features The New Day, who often cosplay as cartoon characters, dressed as Donatello and Michelangelo, along with Roman Reigns as Shredder in gear that could probably be repurposed for a Kevin Nash Super Shredder down the line. Reigns includes a cloth cloak and skirt, along with his usual Tribal chief necklace, and Shredder-style shoulder pads and wrist blade. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods come in TMNT-inspired ring gear, along with custom WWE-styled weapons racks and the signature bo staffs and nunchucks.
Wave 2 will include Seth Freakin’ Rollins as Leonardo, Rey Mysterio as Raphael, and Cody Rhodes as Casey Jones, complete with an American Nightmare-styled hockey mask. Rey and Rollins have previously been known to cosplay as comic characters as well, so the gimmick fits. Each figure uses the Elite-style bodies, with ab crunches and ball joints.
It’s not exactly clear when these will hit stores besides a vague “later this year,” but expect quick sellouts when they do. Rare WWE figures still command high secondary market prices, as do rare TMNT.
