Hellboy Reboot Casts Thomas Haden Church as Lobster Johnson

Discussing Film has revealed Thomas Haden Church’s next superhero project. Church will portray Lobster Johnson in the upcoming Hellboy reboot.

Church played the Sandman (Flint Marko), one of the main villains of Spider-Man 3. Earlier this year, Church was asked by JoBlo if he would ever act in a comic book based movie again. To the surprise of everyone, Church revealed that he had already filmed his scenes. “I’m not supposed to talk about it, but I actually have returned … it’s a movie I shot last year.”

For months speculation ran wild about who he would play. But now, it’s confirmed that Church will play Lobster Johnson in the new Hellboy movie, which is based on Mike Mignola’s long running Dark Horse comics series. This will be the Lobster Johsnon’s first appearance on film after almost appearing in Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

Lobster Johnson was a 1930’s pulp vigilante hero in the world of Hellboy. His adventures were chronicled in comics and serials, but the public never knew there was a real Lobster Johnson out there saving the world from mobsters and Nazis. The Lobster marked his enemies by burning his lobster claw symbol into their foreheads. Hellboy was a childhood fan of these adventures. Eventually, Hellboy and the Bureau for Paranormal Research had their own encounters with the Lobster.

The new Hellboy film is scheduled for a April 12, 2019 release. It is currently unknown how many retweets it would take for Church to officiate a fan’s wedding as Lobster Johnson.
