Avengers: Endgame Directors Share Their Essential Marvel Movies List

With Avengers: Endgame set to hit theaters this month, fans everywhere have begun preparing accordingly. This includes watching key films in the series to get back on track with the timeline’s events. But for some, the big question is, “Where to start?” Holding a marathon of all of Marvel Studios’movies makes perfect sense. However, not all of us have that kind of time. ComicBook recently spoke with the Endgame directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, to get a better idea of where to begin.

Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War without question because the events of Civil War directly affected Infinity War, and we would argue that the reason they lost to Thanos is because of Civil War,” said Joe Russo. “Clearly, that carries over to Endgame. If you’re going to add one more in there, I’d probably say (Captain America: The) Winter Soldier, only in that those are the four moves we directed, and they’re all thematically connected to one another.”

Addressing the duo’s start with Winter Solder back in 2014, Anthony Russo added, “This is from our point of view in the storytelling. This is the thread we’re working with.”

However, some fans would argue over the value of other films in the MCU. The Avengers brought the team together and introduced Thanos. Additionally, Ant-Man established the Quantum Realm, which may play a part in Endgame.

As for the scale of Endgame, Joe Russo noted that it would be a mistake to simply try outdo Avengers: Infinity War.

“Here’s the thing: you cannot chase bigger with movies,” said Joe Russo. “All you can do is chase storytelling. So, Endgame is us committing to storytelling on the highest level. We poured our heart and soul into this one, and we’ll see how audiences respond to it.”

We’ll find out how fans feel about Avengers: Endgame when it arrives on Friday, April 26. Which MCU movies do you think are quintessential viewing for Endgame? Let us know in the comment section below!
