Even though Marvel Studios is currently in its Endgame with the latest Avengers film, there are big plans ahead for Phase 4. The Hollywood Reporter provided a lengthy report talking about what’s next on the slate for Marvel Studios. According to this story, the third Guardians of the Galaxy film could go into production as soon as 2020.
THR’s report says “Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is planned for a 2020 shoot — the current five stars are expected to reunite — with James Gunn back in the saddle as director.” However, it doesn’t seem to take into account that Gunn is slated to film The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. Assuming that The Suicide Squad goes into production sometime this fall, Gunn could begin pre-production for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 early next year. However, that’s still a very tight schedule.
Marvel Studio still hasn’t revealed its Phase 4 plans. But Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 should definitely play a huge part in that. The sequel may even introduce Adam Warlock, as teased in one of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s post-credit sequences.

Outside of the Guardians, other heroes are also slated to return. Marvel has already confirmed a follow-up to Black Panther with the return of director Ryan Coogler. Sequels to Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange are in the works as well. Additionally, the Black Widow movie and The Eternals should film sometime this year, along with the recently announced adaptation of Shang-Chi.
Avengers: Endgame is in theaters now. The next MCU film will be Spider-Man: Far From Home, which hits on July 2.
