Robert Downey Jr. Says He Wants Riri Williams To Be in the MCU

After Avengers: Endgame, half of the original team is seemingly out of the picture. While this may pave the way for new and existing heroes to step up, Robert Downey Jr. has openly suggested that Riri Williams a.k.a. Ironheart should be among the icons in the MCU.

Via Heroic Hollywood, Downey was a featured guest at the e Gene Siskel Film Center. Before he took the stage, Downey was introduced by Eve Ewing, the writer of Marvel’s Ironheart book. And while addressing the crowd, Downey apparently endorsed Ironheart’s inclusion in the MCU. Ewing quickly responded by sharing the following message on her twitter account.

Brian Michael Bendis, and artist Mike Deodato created Riri in 2015. Within the Marvel comic book universe, Riri was a 15 year old MIT student who reverse engineered one of Iron Man’s armors and reassembled it. Tony Stark was so impressed that he introduced himself to Riri and endorsed her decision to become a superhero. Later, Riri redesigned her armor and tried to honor Stark’s legacy as Ironheart. Riri’s on-board A.I. was also based on Tony Stark’s mind; which could be an intriguing way to keep Downey in the MCU.

In addition to holding down her own comic, Riri currently appears in Champions alongside several other young heroes. If Riri makes the leap to live-action in the MCU, her profile as a heroine could be greatly increased.
