Zoe Saldana Wants To Explore Gamora’s Dark Side in Guardians 3

Warning: spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame!

What happened to Gamora at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame is anyone’s guess. The film doesn’t show whether she faded away with Thanos’ army or if she slipped away in the aftermath. Regardless, Zoe Saldana expects to be back for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. But she doesn’t necessarily want to play the same version of Gamora that we’ve seen before.

Via CBR, Saldana appeared at the ACE Comic-Con in Seattle alongside her Guardians of the Galaxy co-stars Josh Brolin and Lee Pace. When asked about Gamora’s return in the third film, Saldana indicted that she wants to go “bad.”

“The technical answer is, it all depends on what Marvel and James Gunn desire to do with the Guardians and with Gamora’s fate,” explained Saldana. “There’s a part of me that wants her to go back, find her way back to the Guardians, but there’s also a part of me that wants to explore a bad Gamora. I’ve never seen that and she’s, you know, she’s considered the most lethal assassin, the most lethal woman in the galaxy, so I would want to see what that wrath looks like also because it would just give me layers to sort of work on. But yeah, I want her to get back to the Guardians.”

Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Avengers: Endgame, didn’t make it clear whether or not Gamora survived  at the conclusion of the film. While speaking with Fox 5 DC, Joe Russo explained that “the argument could be that Tony wished away all the evil. Was she evil or just the enemy? Is she still alive? Who knows, that’s a story for another time.”

James Gunn, the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, is currently gearing up to helm The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. later this year. After that, Gunn will return to Marvel and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
