Former Doctor Who Star Peter Capaldi May Join The Suicide Squad

The Suicide Squad will reportedly get its first table read next week, and another member of the cast may be locked in. According to Deadline, Oscar winner and former Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi is the latest addition to The Suicide Squad. However, there are no details about which character Capaldi will play.

While best known for his three season run as the Doctor on Doctor Who, Capaldi is an accomplished actor, writer, and director. He co-starred as Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It. He also won an Academy Award for Best Short Film in 1995 for writing and directing Franz Kafka’s It’s a Wonderful Life.

Additionally, Deadline reports that Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson is up for a cameo role in The Suicide Squad. But as with Capaldi, there’s nothing currently known about whom Davidson will play.

James Gunn will write and direct The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. Pictures. Although Gunn has repeatedly said it’s not a sequel to Suicide Squad, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, and potentially Margot Robbie will reprise their roles for the film. Idris Elba is leading the newcomers to the cast, alongside David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Steve Agee, Storm Reid, and Flula Borg. Nathan Fillion WWE veteran John Cena are also rumored to have roles in the film.

Production is expected to begin on the film later this month. The Suicide Squad will hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
