Terminator: Dark Fate Director Thinks the Brand “Has Been Tainted” a Bit

The last issue of Total Film has brought us a new batch of photos from Terminator: Dark Fate, featuring new looks at the new Terminator, Rev-9, as well as at T-800 and Sarah Connor. In addition, Dark Fate director Tim Miller revealed in a feature with the magazine that he isn’t that much of a fan of the entries in the Terminator franchise after Terminator 2.

“I think the brand has been tainted a little bit,” Miller said. “I don’t want to disparage the work of any of those movies, and some of them were interesting, but I feel like they just played in the world of The Terminator – it was essentially a different thing. T2 was just one of those events that was a f***ing revelation. It’s one of those films that everyone remembers what they were doing when they first saw it. I still don’t think I realize what I’m doing trying to follow that up…”

Though much about the film remains unknown, key members of the series’ early entries return. Arnold Schwarzenegger comes back again, most likely as another robot with a license to kill. Linda Hamilton will reprise her role as Sarah Connor for the first time in nearly 30 years. James Cameron, the writer and director of the same two entries as well as Titanic (1997) and Avatar (2009) is also returning as a producer of the forthcoming film. The Dark Fate trailer is still vague in story details but offers enough to intrigue.

Terminator: Dark Fate has no shortage of new faces, however. Tim Miller, who is best known for directing Deadpool, is stepping behind the camera for the film. In addition, Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049), Natalia Reyes (Birds of Passage) and Gabriel Luna (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) join the cast. Davis and Luna appear to be playing new Terminators on different sides of the war against the machines.

Terminator: Dark Fate will hit theaters on November 1. Do you agree with the Dark Fate director’s words? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
