Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters Sequel May Be Called Ghostbusters: Afterlife

During filming, Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters revival was called Ghostbusters 2020. However, that could soon change.According to Heroic Hollywood, the British Board of Film Classification has given a 12A rating to the revival’s debut trailer. And with it comes a new title for the sequel: Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

The trailer reportedly clocks in at the 2 minute and 28 second mark, and will likely premiere in theaters alongside Jumanji: The Next Level. Considering that Jumanji will arrive in UK theaters over the weekend, the trailer could premiere online as soon as this week . The U.S. release will follow on December 13.

Sony hasn’t provided confirmation about the sequel name, but the promotional campaign has begun. One item in particular is a Hi-C ad which appeared on Twitter a few weeks ago, according to ScreenCrush

In it, the ECTO Cooler drink from the ’80s returned, with three different flavors. However, the tweet has since vanished, but the image is available below. The Ghostbusters: Afterlife title is clearly visible within it.

The trailer, whenever it does appear, should provide more details about the story. But if the Afterlife name sticks, it may hint that the sequel will explore life after death in the Ghostbusters universe.

Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Carrie Coon, and Paul Rudd will star in the film, and it  will premiere on July 10, 2020.
