Throughout his career, J.J. Abrams has tackled several big franchises, including Star Wars, Star Trek, and Mission Impossible. He also wrote his own Superman screenplay back in the early 2000s. Of course, that movie never got made, and Abrams has still yet to properly enter the big-screen superhero realm. Rumors are currently circulating about Warner Bros. having their eye on Abrams to helm either a new Superman film or a Green Lantern reboot. Now, the director is addressing this gossip in a new interview with Screen Rant.
The rumors about Abrams’ DC involvement stemmed from a pact his production company, Bad Robot, recently made with WarnerMedia. Under the deal’s terms, the company will create exclusive content for WarnerMedia over a five-year period. But according to Abrams, they still haven’t had any discussions about what projects he’ll develop.

“I have not had one official conversation with Warners at all about this,” said Abrams. “But people have asked me this question and I know that we, Bad Robot, we recently signed a deal with WarnerMedia, we will begin in earnest all discussions about what’s coming next. But, I know no more than you do about what’s next, certainly in terms of DC.”
Man of Steel memorably kickstarted DC’s shared cinematic universe in 2013. However, Warner Bros. doesn’t seem any closer to developing a standalone sequel. Henry Cavill, who last reprised his headlining role as Superman in Justice League in 2017, recently shared that he hasn’t given up on playing the character. The studio has also been developing a Green Lantern Corps movie since 2015. According to Variety, Geoff Johns is expected to turn in a script for that film by the end of the year.
