Disney Issues Safety Warning For The Rise of Skywalker’s Light Sequences

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is just a few weeks away, but Disney is already taking precautions.

The Hollywood Reporter recently noted that Disney has given notification to theaters surrounding certain sequences in the film. It notes that “certain visuals and sustained flashing lights sequences” might have an effect on viewers with photosensitive epilepsy.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we recommend that you provide at your venue box office and online, and at other appropriate places where your customers will see it, a notice containing the following information: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker contains several sequences with imagery and sustained flashing lights that may affect those who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy or have other photo sensitivities.”

Additionally, Disney has also reached out to the Epilepsy Foundation, which recently posted the details on its site to share information with its members.

“We thank Disney for reaching out to us and proactively providing information to movie theaters and moviegoers in advance of the movie’s release.”

Disney didn’t detail specifically which sequences could trigger such a reaction, since it’s avoiding spoilers. However, in the past, Star Wars films have featured large-scale space fights featuring flashing effects. And the latest trailers indicate that viewers will see more of that style of action.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens in theaters on December 20.
