Warner Bros. Sets Release Dates for The Flash and The Matrix 4

It looks like Warner Bros. is finally bringing The Flash movie to the starting line. Additionally, the studio has found a place for the new Matrix sequel. Via The Hollywood Reporter, The Matrix 4 will open on May 21, 2021. The Flash will follow a year later on July 1, 2022.

Warner Bros. announced The Matrix 4 in August with Lana Wachowski returning to the director’s chair. Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett-Smith will reprise their roles from the original trilogy as Neo, Trinity, and Niobe. THR also notes that the Matrix sequel will also compete with another Reeves-led fourth installment, John Wick: Chapter 4. Both films are slated for May 21, 2021, unless one of the studios finds another date.

The Matrix 4 will also feature Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jessica Henwick. Jonathan Groff and Toby Onwumere were both added to the cast this week.

The Flash‘s movie has suffered many setbacks over the last few years. Warner Bros. has cycled through a few different directors, including Seth Grahame-Smith, Rick Famuyiwa, and John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein. But now, Andy Muschietti has the reins of Warner Bros.’ next prospective franchise.

Ezra Miller is still attached to return as Barry Allen, but the supporting cast remains a mystery. Kiersey Clemons filmed scenes as Iris West for Justice League in 2017. It’s also possible that Billy Crudup might return as Barry’s father, Henry Allen.
