John Krasinski is Still Open to Starring in Marvel’s Fantastic Four Reboot

It’s not clear when it started, but for the past couple of years, John Krasinski has found himself at the top of several Marvel fans’ lists for who they’d like to see play Reed Richards in a new Fantastic Four film. This has resulted in some impressive fan-made trailers and artwork, so it was only a matter of time before it caught the attention of the man himself. Krasinski has commented on the possibility of playing Mr. Fantastic in the MCU in the past. But while speaking with SYFY, he revealed that it would take a specific endorsement for him to accept the role.

“I’d totally be open to that,” said Krasinski. “I love the Marvel universe, I love watching those movies. They’re such a great time and so well done. I always say ‘In Kevin Feige I trust.’ He’s such a smart guy, I would never pretend to know what he’s thinking. But if he’s thinking about it, I’d be psyched.”

This isn’t Krasinski’s first brush with playing a Marvel character, so he definitely knows Kevin Feige already. Back in 2010, he was in the running to play Captain America before the part went to Chris Evans. Legend has it that Krasinski took himself out of the running after bumping into Chris Hemsworth and feeling intimidated by the Thor actor’s jacked physique. Of course, this was before he started bulking up for his own post-Office roles in 13 Hours and Amazon’s Jack Ryan.

Aside from reinventing himself as an action hero in recent years, Krasinski has also made a name for himself as a promising director. This is mostly thanks to his well-received work on A Quiet Place and its soon-to-be-released sequel. But when it comes to stepping behind the camera for the FF’s big-screen return, Krasinski is again trusting Feige’s judgment.

“If he believed in me to direct, then maybe I’d talk about it,” Krasinski said. “But it’s one of those things that they have down so well that I wouldn’t want to mess with the formula.”

Krasinski isn’t the only member of his family with a shot at joining Marvel’s take on the Fantastic Four. Fans also have his wife and A Quiet Place co-star Emily Blunt pegged as a solid choice to play Sue Storm. However, when SYFY reached out for her own thoughts, Blunt seemed less sure about the prospect.

“I dunno!” Blunt said. “For me, it’s all script-dependent, part-dependent. I don’t ever think I’m going to sign onto something in a hypothetical way.”

Do you think John Krasinski and Emily Blunt would be good choices to co-headline a Fantastic Four reboot? How do you think Krasinski would fare as the movie’s director? Let us know in the comments down below!
