Marvel Delays Black Widow to November, Eternals to February 2021

In a perfect world, Black Widow would have kicked off the summer movie season next month. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 outbreak forced Disney and Marvel to remove the film from their release calendar. Now, Marvel has finally set a new date for the titular superspy’s long-awaited spinoff. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Black Widow will hit theaters on November 6.

Obviously, this is the date that was going to be occupied by Chloe Zhao’s Eternals, so this latest switch is triggering a domino effect on Marvel’s entire Phase Four slate. Eternals will now arrive three months later on February 12, 2021. Similarly, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will vacate its original February premiere and replace Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on May 7, 2021. The Doctor Strange sequel will later arrive on November 5, 2021 and consequently push Thor: Love and Thunder to February 18, 2022.

Fortunately, not all upcoming Marvel films are getting moved around. THR notes that Black Panther 2 is still coming out on May 6, 2022. Disney and Marvel have also decided to move the release of Captain Marvel 2 up two weeks to July 8, 2022. Surprisingly, the report makes no mention of whether Spider-Man 3’s July 16, 2021 release date is changing. But that will probably be left for Sony to decide.

Additionally, the new release date for Indiana Jones 5 is July 29, 2022. Kenneth Branagh’s Artemis Fowl adaptation is also going straight to Disney+.
