Marvel Hires Jeff Loveness to Write Ant-Man 3

The COVID-19 pandemic just prompted Marvel to shift their entire release calendar by several months. However, this doesn’t seem to have stopped the studio from inking deals related to films still in development. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has recruited Jeff Loveness to pen the script for Ant-Man 3.

Loveness has most recently worked on Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty, and he’s not the first writer from that series to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Michael Waldron is serving as the head writer for Loki and is currently reworking the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness screenplay. Additionally, Jessica Gao, who wrote the infamous “Pickle Rick” episode, is spearheading the upcoming She-Hulk series. Loveness has also written for TBS’ Miracle Workers, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and a few Oscars and Emmys telecasts.

Marvel apparently drafted Loveness “in the early days of Hollywood’s shutdown,” and he’s already begun his first draft. Regardless, he probably won’t be the only writer lending his talents to the film. Both the original Ant-Man and its 2018 sequel listed Scott Lang himself, Paul Rudd, as a co-writer. So it seems likely that Rudd will take his own pass at the script as well.

Series director Peyton Reed finalized his own deal to direct Ant-Man 3 back in November. Aside from Rudd, the next sequel will also feature the return of Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne/The Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne. Emma Fuhrman seems likely to reprise her Avengers: Endgame role as the older Cassie Lang. She may even adopt one of her comic book superhero personas as either Stature or Stinger.

Ant-Man 3 is still without a release date.
