Wonder Woman 1984 is hopefully only four months away, but director Patty Jenkins is already getting questions about Diana’s third cinematic outing. Jenkins previously revealed that Wonder Woman 3’s story, along with that of a potential Amazons spinoff, have already been mapped out. However, it’s going to be a while before she starts building those ideas into anything concrete. While speaking with Total Film (via GamesRadar), Jenkins confirmed that she’ll be taking a break from the franchise after the sequel arrives this summer.
“I’m not going to nail down a fresh thought about it until this movie comes out, because I kind of want to give myself a palette cleanser, and be fresh of mind,” said Jenkins. “But yeah, there’s an arc that I have in mind for the first movie, and then the second movie, and then the Amazon movie, and then the third movie.”

Jenkins’ desire to briefly step away from the DC Universe after she’s done promoting WW84 isn’t without precedent. After the original film bowed in 2017, Jenkins turned her attention to the TNT miniseries I Am the Night. Jenkins also confirmed that she has no plans to sit in the director’s chair for the Amazons spinoff.
“I’m not going to direct it, hopefully,” added Jenkins. “I’m going to try really hard not to. It’s not going to be easy. But [WW84 co-writer and former DC Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer] Geoff Johns and I came up with the story, and we sold the pitch, and we’re going to get it going. I’ll produce it, for sure.”
Wonder Woman 1984 will hit theaters on August 14.
