Although it’s been over a decade since the original Avatar was released, director James Cameron is still diligent about exploring new parts of Pandora in the sequel. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, production on Avatar 2 is currently on hold. However, that hasn’t stopped the film’s official Twitter account from sharing a new behind-the-scenes look at the Avatar 2 cast. Within the pic, returning stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are reunited in a large water tank. New cast members Cliff Curtis and Kate Winslet are also present in their motion capture outfits.

Worthington and Saldana are reprising their roles as Jake Sully and his wife, Neytiri, for the sequel. Curtis and Winslet are new additions to the cast. Curtis will portray the leader of the Metkayina clan, Tonowari. Winslet has a smaller role as a Metkayinan free-diver named Ronal. As demonstrated in the pic, the sequel will have several underwater sequences that will expand the world of Pandora.
Avatar 2 will hit theaters on December 17, 2021.
