Earlier this week, word broke that the fabled Justice League Snyder Cut will become a reality on HBO Max. Director Zack Snyder and his wife/producing partner, Deborah Snyder, will get $20 to $30 million to rework the film and fulfill Snyder’s vision. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Deborah Snyder explained that the current pandemic shutdown is actually the best time for this project to come back to life.
“People thought, ‘It won’t be possible to ramp up, and that maybe this should go on the back burner,” noted Deborah Snyder. “But we said, ‘No, this is the right time’ because our visual effects houses that rely on so much are running out of work, so now is the time to be doing this.”
THR also notes that the special effects companies still have the original assets from Snyder’s Justice League cut. That should make it easier for the companies to revisit their work on the film.

Additionally, Deborah Snyder said that bringing the Snyder Cut to HBO Max made more sense than getting it re-released in theaters.
“With the new platform and streaming services, you can have something like this,” said Snyder. “You can’t release something like this theatrically, but you could with a streaming service. It’s an opportunity that wasn’t there two years ago, to be honest.”
The Justice League Snyder Cut will hit HBO Max in 2021.
