Nearly two years ago, the word out of Warner Bros. was that Henry Cavill was done playing Superman on the big screen. However, new reports from The Wrap and Deadline indicate that the door is once again open for Cavill to reprise his iconic role.
According to both outlets, Cavill and Warner Bros. are not in talks for Man of Steel 2, and a sequel to Cavill’s first Superman movie isn’t in the cards for now. Instead, the focus of the negotiations is for a cameo role in an upcoming DC film. Deadline speculates that Cavill could appear in Shazam 2, Black Adam, or Aquaman 2. Superman actually did cameo in the first Shazam, but Cavill didn’t return for that film.
However, The Wrap suggests that Cavill could simply sign on to film pickups for the recently announced Justice League Snyder Cut.

There may be something to The Wrap’s theory. Earlier this week, WarnerMedia Chairman Bob Greenblatt hinted that it may cost more than $30 million to produce the Snyder Cut. Greenblatt also implied that it was more complex than originally reported. If the Snyder Cut does need additional footage then Cavill may not be the only cast member to return.
