Leigh Whannell In Talks To Direct Ryan Gosling In The Wolfman Reboot

Back in May, Universal Pictures once again moved past the Dark Universe by fast-tracking a reboot of The Wolfman. Ryan Gosling was brought on to headline the film as the titular Wolfman. Now, according to Deadline, director Leigh Whannell is in negotiations to helm The Wolfman reboot.

Whannell previously directed Insidious: Chapter 3 and Upgrade, in addition to his supporting acting roles in the Saw movies, Aquaman, and more. However, Whannell’s breakout directorial effort was The Invisible Man; which was a box office success for Blumhouse and Universal earlier this year.

Additionally, the report notes that Whannell initially turned down the chance to direct The Wolfman. But Blumhouse was able to get Whannell to reconsider his stance.

Jason Blum’s wife, Lauren Schuker Blum, is co-writing the new Wolfman movie with Rebecca Angelo. Assuming Whannell joins the project, he will write the treatment for the reboot.

Lon Chaney Jr. starred in the original movie, The Wolf Man, back in 1941. Universal subsequently added the Wolfman to the Universal Classic Monsters. Benicio del Toro headlined a previous Wolfman reboot in 2010.
