Two years ago, James Gunn was fired from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 because of offensive tweets that he sent over a decade before. A year later, Disney and Marvel Studios reinstated Gunn for the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie. However, Gunn had already lined up his next film, The Suicide Squad, a continuation/soft reboot of the DC Comics title for Warner Bros. Pictures.
Despite the rivalry between fans of Marvel and DC, Gunn insists that there is no bad blood between the respective publishers and studios. In the comment section of a recent Instagram post, Gunn revealed that Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige not only supported Gunn’s decision, he visited him on the set of The Suicide Squad.
“I told Kevin Feige before I took the job and he was very cool and supportive as he always is,” noted Gunn. “He just wanted me to make a good movie. He and Lou D’Esposito even came to visit the set and watched us shoot. There isn’t the enmity behind the scenes like there is in the fan community.”

Gunn still has obligations to fulfill for The Suicide Squad, including post-production and promotion. Once he finishes with that, Gunn is free to begin working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 again.
The Suicide Squad will hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
