It looks like the epic war between the Na’vi and the Resources Development Administration is far from being over. Recently, Avatar producer Jon Landau took to Instagram to share some new set photos from the upcoming sequels to 2009’s epic science fiction blockbuster. The stills feature some human soldiers, who in the universe created by James Cameron are the misguided members of the RDA. If Avatar is any indication, the ongoing battle between the humans and the sentient extraterrestrial humanoids will be without quarter.

Many details from the upcoming movie are still under wrap. However, the story takes place 13 years after the events of the original film. Many members from the original cast will return, including some of the mercenaries who fought for the RDA against the Na’vi in the first film like Matt Gerald’s Corporal Lyle Wainfleet and Stephen Lang’s Colonel Miles Quaritch. It has yet to be seen the form they will take in their return on-screen, given that both characters died at the end of Avatar.
According to Disney’s current plans, Avatar 2 will hit theaters on December 16, 2022. The following sequels should debut each every couple of years.
