Empire Magazine is just about to debut their big feature on James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad, so more tidbits should leak out very soon. In the meantime, however, thanks to Gunn, we get two covers which show off the entire Task Force X in all their glory. And a reminder from Gunn that not everyone will survive, living up to the movie’s name. He previously revealed the entire character roster at DC FanDome.

Oh, and here’s the subscribers-only cover of @TheSuicideSquad on @EmpireMagazine. I don’t know what it is, but something about it is even cooler. #TheSuicideSquad @MargotRobbie @idriselba @JohnCena pic.twitter.com/4ENWfjtsTO

When a fan on Twitter suggested that certain characters like Harley Quinn seem obviously safe with “plot armor,” Gunn had a retort. “No character was protected by DC,” he said. “They gave me carte blanche to do what I wanted. That was one of the things we agreed to before I came to work for them. I wasn’t looking for shock value but I wanted the audience to know anything could happen.” He reminded fans that he still gets hate mail for killing Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. And as far as he’s concerned Yondu should remain dead to keep the impact of that choice alive.
Nonetheless, considering there are other future plans for Margot Robbie’s Harley in different movies, it seems unlikely she’d ever permanently bite the dust. (She also just happens to be one of the most recognizable and popular comic book characters of all time.) But Gunn could always leave that for DC to figure out.
Who do you think definitely survives? Let us know in comments below!
