Harrison Ford Pays Tribute To Indiana Jones Co-Star Sean Connery

The entertainment industry continues to mourn the loss of Sean Connery, who died over the weekend at the age of 90. For the past few days, actors and filmmakers alike have been sharing tributes to the legendary actor. Now, Harrison Ford has reflected on what it was like to work with him on Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989.

Connery famously appeared in The Last Crusade as Indiana Jones’ father, Henry Jones, Sr. Although he was only 12 years older than Ford, the actors’ familial chemistry was arguably the movie’s biggest selling point. Ford recalled watching Connery film one of the sequel’s most memorable action scenes in a new statement he shared with Variety.

“He was my father…not in life…but in Indy 3,” said Ford. “You don’t know pleasure until someone pays you to take Sean Connery for a ride in the side car of a Russian motorcycle bouncing along a bumpy, twisty mountain trail and getting to watch him squirm. God, we had fun — if he’s in heaven, I hope they have golf courses. Rest in peace, dear friend.”

Connery retired from acting in 2003 after headlining The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen as Allan Quartermain. Regardless, he was offered the chance to return as the elder Jones for a cameo appearance in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which hit theaters in 2008. Early reports suggested that Connery’s retirement is what made him turn down the role. But in a 2007 interview, he claimed that he actually did meet with Steven Spielberg about possibly coming back. Unfortunately, the part was too small for his liking, but he later confessed that he enjoyed the finished film.
