Amber Heard Confirms That She Isn’t Leaving Aquaman 2

The ongoing legal war between Amber Heard and her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, recently led to Depp losing a spousal abuse libel suit against The Sun. In turn, Warner Bros. asked Depp to depart the Fantastic Beasts franchise. In turn, some of Depp’s fans have called for Heard to be removed from her role as Mera in Aquaman 2. Regardless, Heard told Entertainment Weekly that there’s nothing to the rumors that her departure is imminent.

“I’m super excited about the amount of fan love and the amount of fan appreciation that Aquaman has acquired and that it has garnered so much excitement for Aquaman and Mera that it means we’ll be coming back,” said Heard. “I’m so excited to film that.”

“Paid rumors and paid campaigns on social media don’t dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality,” continued Heard. “Only the fans actually made Aquaman and Aquaman 2 happen. I’m excited to get started next year.”

Warner Bros. previously set Aquaman 2 for a December 16, 2022. But it’s unclear if the film can make that date, given the complications of the coronavirus pandemic.
