Patty Jenkins Still Doesn’t Know If She Will Direct Wonder Woman 3

Thanks to COVID-19, Wonder Woman 1984 has almost no chance of matching the box office of the original movie. Regardless, a third film is all but guaranteed at this point. Last year, Patty Jenkins even revealed that she and her team “already know the whole story” for Wonder Woman 3. But in a new interview with The New York Times, Jenkins confessed that she still doesn’t know if she will sit in the director’s chair for another installment.

Later this week, Wonder Woman 1984 will arrive on HBO Max, making the only superhero movie of 2020 to premiere on a major streaming service day-and-date with theaters. For the last month, Jenkins has put on a brave face about this decision, as it allows people to enjoy the movie safely. However, it doesn’t sound like she’d be willing to repeat this model a second time.

“We’ll see what happens, I really don’t know,” said Jenkins. “I know that I’d love to do the third one if the circumstances were right and there was still a theatrical model possible. I don’t know that I would if there wasn’t.”

Until now, Jenkins has sounded confident about returning for Wonder Woman 3. Jenkins also recently revealed that she almost didn’t direct Wonder Woman 1984 because WB initially wasn’t willing to pay her what her male peers made for their own superhero sequels after their first films experienced success similar to Wonder Woman in 2017.

Wonder Woman 1984 premieres in theaters and HBO Max on Christmas Day.
