The Prequel To Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead Has Wrapped Filming

It looks like Zack Snyder is about to have a banner 2021 with the release of not one, but two new films on rival streaming services. HBO Max is expected to premiere Snyder’s long-awaited cut of Justice League in March. Meanwhile, Netflix is also planning to release Army of the Dead sometime next year as well. The buzz surrounding the later film has been so positive that Netflix ordered a prequel movie as well as an anime series set in the Army of the Dead universe back in September. Now, Snyder has revealed that the prequel has already wrapped production.

Snyder took to Twitter to announce the end of filming on the prequel. He also included a photo of the film’s cast, which you can view below.

Snyder calls the new film Army of the Dead: The Prequel. However, it’s not clear if this is the actual title or just a placeholder until Netflix is ready to announce the real thing. Although he helmed the primary Army of the Dead movie, Snyder didn’t return to the director’s chair for the prequel. Instead, that honor fell to Matthias Schweighöfer, who is also reprising his role from Snyder’s film as Ludwig Dieter. The prequel’s cast also includes former Game of Thrones actress Nathalie Emmanuel, who appears in the photo above.

Army of the Dead marks Snyder’s first zombie movie in over 15 years. Previously, he made his feature directorial debut with his Dawn of the Dead remake in 2004. The new film centers on a team of mercenaries who have to fight hordes of the undead as they attempt to rob a Las Vegas casino. Dave Bautista is headlining that film as Scott Ward, and his character will also be the subject of Netflix’s Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas anime series.
