Over the weekend, Connie Nielsen reprised her Wonder Woman role as Queen Hippolyta at the beginning of Wonder Woman 1984. And apparently, her next visit to the DC Extended Universe isn’t far off. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Nielsen revealed that Wonder Woman’s mom will have an expanded role in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Technically, Nielsen’s character did appear in Justice League’s theatrical cut alongside her fellow Amazons on Themyscira. The scene showed the woman warriors fighting Steppenwolf as he attempted to steal a Mother Box hidden on the island. Parts of this sequence were left on the cutting room floor after Joss Whedon took over the movie. But now that Snyder is back in charge, fans will finally get to see it as originally intended, complete with Snyder’s new design for Steppenwolf. Plus, it sounds like Hippolyta will have some more impressive stuntwork this time around.
“Zack had already called me to ask if I would be okay with a reissue of the film with changes,” said Nielsen. “And I asked him, ‘Well, will you bring back the Amazon chapter the way you had written it and had filmed it?’ He said, ‘Absolutely.’ Then I said, ‘And Zack, will you also bring back my quite incredible stunt, running up the walls?’ And he said, ‘You got it.’ So I said, ‘Yeah, definitely. You’ve got my blessing. Absolutely.’”

Nielsen went on to express her dismay over how much Justice League footage was cut after Snyder left the film. In fact, she claims that this is why the movie’s theatrical cut didn’t strike a chord with audiences in 2017.
“What was really sad was how much stuff we filmed that wasn’t in the film,” added Nielsen. “And I think that’s part of what made Justice League less cohesive as a viewing experience. The intent was not the same during the editing as it was during shooting.”
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will premiere as a four-part miniseries on HBO Max in 2021.
