When an actor stars in a Star Wars movie, they can expect to get asked about it forever. Especially if they want to do it again. And while Felicity Jones talked to The Hollywood Reporter about George Clooney’s The Midnight Sky, in which she plays a different kind of sci-fi heroine, the topic of Rogue One came up again. It may not come as a surprise that some scenes in special-effects heavy movies take a long time to film. But it might surprise many which one took a week: that last death scene as she and Cassian Andor embrace. Because they wanted it shot at pre-sunset “golden hour,” it could only utilize an hour of production time each day.
“We shot it every single evening over a week to get the right light of sunset, to get the perfect pink light, so we knew that scene inside out by the end of the week,” Jones told THR. “It was just amazing to see how it morphed and shifted and changed. We shot that film in a very visceral, naturalistic, gritty way, which I think is why so many people responded to it. I think they loved that it felt so real and had elements of the ’70s Star Wars films that had that similar feeling of naturalism and reality.”

While the Rogue One segment of the Star Wars universe continues with the prequel series Andor, it’s unlikely Jones will return there. Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor’s first meeting is depicted in Rogue One, so it would take some significant retconning to have them meet sooner. However, the actress has stated that since cloning and reincarnation are possible in the storyline, she’d like to find a way for Jyn to come back.
