Hannibal Star Mads Mikkelsen Joins the Cast of Indiana Jones 5

Earlier this month, the long-stalled Indiana Jones 5 took a major step forward when Phoebe Waller-Bridge was cast to appear opposite Harrison Ford. Now, Deadline is reporting that Hannibal’s Mads Mikkelsen has also been lined up to join the cast. It’s unknown if Mikkelsen will play the bad guy in the film. But that’s the early speculation.

Mikkelsen has quite a reputation as an on-screen villain. In addition to starring as Hannibal Lector in three seasons of NBC’s Hannibal, Mikkelsen played Le Chiffre in Casino Royale. He also portrayed Kaecilius in Doctor Strange. Additionally, Mikkelsen recently stepped into the role of Gellert Grindelwald following Johnny Depp’s Fantastic Beasts 3 departure.

However, Lucasfilm previously gave Mikkelsen a non-villainous role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. So it’s possible that he won’t be Indy’s next adversary. It’s just likely that he is.

For the first time, Steven Spielberg will not direct the new Indiana Jones movie. Regardless, Spielberg remains as an executive producer alongside new director, James Mangold. Composer John Williams will also return for the film.

Indiana Jones 5 will hit theaters on July 22, 2022. It will likely begin filming this summer.
