Indiana Jones 5 Adds Thomas Kretschmann in a Mystery Role

The star power behind the next Indiana Jones adventure continues to grow. According to The Wrap, Thomas Kretschmann has joined the already impressive cast of Indiana Jones 5. However, Lucasfilm declined to reveal any specifics about the nature of his character.

Kretschmann’s casting is the latest in a string of encouraging announcements that have been made concerning the sequel’s development in recent weeks. After a long period of stagnation, Lucasfilm broke its silence about the film earlier this month when they confirmed that Harrison Ford will reprise his iconic role as the titular explorer. The studio also shared that Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge was the first new addition to Indy 5’s cast. And just last week, Mads Mikkelsen booked his own role in the sequel as well.

Marvel fans probably recognize Kretschmann from playing Baron Wolfgang von Strucker in Avengers: Age of Ultron. More recently, he appeared on Showtime’s Penny Dreadful: City of Angels in the role of Richard Goss. Kretschmann also played Abraham Van Helsing in NBC’s short-lived Dracula series that premiered in 2013. His other big-screen credits include Greyhound, Hitman: Agent 47, and Peter Jackson’s King Kong.
