Andy Serkis Breaks Down the Venom: Let There Be Carnage Trailer

After being rescheduled several times due to the COVID-19 situation, Venom: Let There Be Carnage got not only an official release date but also a trailer. The movie will debut in September, and it will see director Andy Serkis helming his first comic book feature. The story will pit the titular antihero against Carnage in the first live-action adaptation of one of the most popular villains in the comics. A few minutes after the trailer hit the Internet, Serkis offered his breakdown of what the fans saw.

After talking about the unusual relationship between Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and Venom, the director focused on the unhealthy rapport that ties Eddie with a mass murderer like Cletus. Serkis explained that they both had strange upbringings and odd relationships with their families.

“There’s an inherent loneliness that they both recognize in each other,” Serkis said. “Cletus actually reaches out and will only speak to Eddie Brock. That’s at the beginning of the story. We learned that he’s the only one he’ll speak to. And the cops, therefore, want Eddie to go in and investigate and try and discover where some of the bodies, some of the many bodies of Cletus’s victims are.”

The director then teased some of the power that Carnage has in the movie. Besides the ones from the comics, it appears that the character might show off some new skills.

“He can turn to mist, he can turn to all manner of tendrils, he can take different forms, he can weaponize, he can do all of these different things,” he said.

Serkis also talked about the origin story of Naomie Harris’ Shriek, saying that she is a damaged soul that has suffered in her childhood. She is one of the inhabitants of the Ravencroft Institute, which will play a pivotal role in the story.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage will hit theaters on Sept. 24.
