Six years after he was gunned down in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is returning to the Marvel Universe. Only this time, he’s playing one of Spider-Man’s deadliest enemies. The Wrap brings word that Taylor-Johnson will headline Sony’s upcoming Kraven the Hunter film.
This marks Taylor-Johnson’s third major superhero-themed role to date. His breakthrough came in 2010 when he starred in Kick-Ass, based on Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s comic of the same name. He eventually returned to play the title character in Kick-Ass 2 in 2013. Two years later, Taylor-Johnson joined the MCU as Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver in Age of Ultron, which seems to have been a one-and-done appearance. But since Kraven is Russian in the comics, he’ll probably end up recycling Pietro’s Eastern European accent in Sony’s new film.
Taylor-Johnson went on to star in movies like Godzilla, Nocturnal Animals, and Outlaw King. He most recently had a role in Tenet and will next appear in Matthew Vaughn’s The King’s Man.

Sony began developing a Kraven the Hunter movie in 2018 with Richard Wenk writing the script. J.C. Chandor signed on to direct the film last summer, and there hasn’t been a lot of new info on the project since then. However, it looks like Sony has also recruited Uncharted writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway to revise Wenk’s draft. The report also claims that the studio has signed Taylor-Johnson to a multi-picture deal.
Kraven the Hunter will hit theaters on January 13, 2023.
