The Original Dune is Getting a Limited Edition 4K Blu-Ray in August

David Lynch hasn’t exactly been shy about expressing his disappointment with how his 1984 adaptation of Dune turned out. And for the most part, fans of Frank Herbert’s original novel have agreed with him. Regardless, Arrow Video is releasing a brand new special edition of Lynch’s movie. Before Denis Villeneuve’s remake hits theaters in October, fans can re-watch Lynch’s film in ultra-high definition later this summer.

Arrow is actually releasing two versions of the film: a standard edition and a deluxe limited edition. Aside from a new 4K restoration of the movie, the box set boasts dozens of special features collected on two discs. Some of the material is old, including a handful of featurettes from 2005 that shine a light on the Dune’s visual effects, costumes, and production design. But there’s also a lot of new content for die-hard fans to sink their teeth into. This includes The Sleeper Must Awaken: Making Dune, a feature-length documentary that explores the movie’s journey from concept to screen. Another new featurette takes a closer look at the film’s various merchandising tie-ins.

Fans can also listen to brand new commentary tracks from film historian Paul M. Sammon and Mike White of The Projection Booth podcast. The deluxe edition also comes with a third disc that features standard Blu-ray editions of the film and all of its bonus content. Plus, all discs come housed in a Steelbook case that also includes a 100-page book filled with original concept artwork.

The special edition of Lynch’s Dune will hit stores on August 31. You can check out the box art below and pre-order the movie here.
