Earlier this week, word broke that Warner Bros. had narrowed its Batgirl choices down to four actresses. Now, Deadline is reporting that Leslie Grace has been chosen to portray Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in the upcoming film.
Grace won the role over the other top candidates, including Zoey Deutch, Isabella Merced, and Haley Lu Richardson. As an actress, Grace is best known for her recent role in the film, In the Heights. She is also a Latin Grammy nominated musician and singer.

Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will helm the Batgirl film as a HBO Max original. That means it won’t get a theatrical release in the United States. It’s also unclear if Batgirl will stand alone or feature a connection with The Batman.
Grace will become the second actress to portray Batgirl in a live-action film. Alicia Silverstone played Barbara Wilson/Batgirl in Batman and Robin. However, Yvonne Craig was the first actress to play Barbara Gordon in the Batman TV series during the ’60s. Additionally, Dina Meyer portrayed Barbara as Oracle in the short-lived Birds of Prey TV series. Savannah Welch will play Commissioner Barbara Gordon in the upcoming third season of Titans on HBO Max.
The Batgirl movie will likely begin filming later this year.
