There are a lot of Marvel stories coming this year, and the next MCU film is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. In the ’70s, Shang-Chi headlined the Master of Kung Fu comic, and his father was the Yellow Claw. However, the MCU is slightly changing that. Instead, Shang-Chi’s father is now the Mandarin. Regardless, the core idea remains of Shang-Chi rebelling against his father’s legacy. But he can’t run forever.
Marvel has released a new Shang-Chi featurette that touches upon the first hints of the Mandarin in Iron Man. After escaping the Mandarin’s grasp for years, Shang-Chi is drawn back into his father’s orbit. This time, the Mandarin won’t let him go so easily. The video also revisits the way that Simu Liu seemingly predicted that he would be cast as Shang-Chi.

Additionally, there’s a new Shang-Chi poster that puts the conflict with the Mandarin front and center.
Tony Leung co-stars in the film as the Mandarin, the leader of the Ten Rings whose true name is Wenwu. Awkwafina also co-stars as Shang-Chi’s friend, Katy, who finds herself caught up in the intrigue of his life. Wenwu’s daughter (and Shang-Chi’s estranged sister), Xialing, will be portrayed by Meng’er Zhang. Additionally, Fala Chen will appear as Jiang Li, alongside Florian Munteanu as Razor Fist, Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, and Benedict Wong as Wong.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hits theaters on September 3.
