Tom Hardy Already Has Ideas For a Third Venom Movie

Whether you’re a fan of his take on Venom or not, Tom Hardy is very passionate about the character, so much so that he had an active role in crafting the story for Venom: Let There Be Carnage alongside screenwriter Kelly Marcel. The upcoming sequel will finally pit Hardy’s Eddie Brock against Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady and (hopefully) give fans the symbiotic showdown they’ve been waiting for. And if Hardy gets his way, it will also set the stage for Venom 3.

Hardy recently spoke with Esquire ahead of Let There Be Carnage’s release next month. During the interview, he mentioned that he’s already coming up with ideas for a third Venom installment. However, it all depends on whether the new film meets Sony’s standards at the box office.

“I’m thinking about the third movie as well,” said Hardy. “Because I think you need to write that at the same time. A third won’t be greenlit until the second is successful, but the studio were really, really pleased with number two.”

Additionally, Hardy was asked about the prospect of Eddie/Venom crossing paths with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the future. It goes without saying that Sony and Marvel Studios would have to hammer out some kind of deal for those characters (whose films still seem to take place in separate universes) to share the screen. Regardless, Hardy isn’t giving up hope.

“I would be remiss if I wasn’t trying to steer any kind of connectivity,” added Hardy. “I wouldn’t be doing the job if I wasn’t awake and open to any opportunity or eventuality or be excited by that. Obviously, that’s a large canyon to leap, to be bridged by one person alone. And it would take a much higher level of diplomacy and intelligence, sitting down and talking, to take on an arena such as that.”

“Should both sides be willing, and it be beneficial to both sides, I don’t see why it couldn’t be,” continued Hardy. “I hope and strongly, with both hands, push, eagerly, towards that potential, and would do anything to make that happen, within what’s right in business. But it would be foolish not to head towards the Olympic Games if you were running 100 metres, so yeah! I want to play on that field.”

Venom: Let There Be Carnage hits theaters on September 24.
