Paul Atreides’ Journey Begins in Dune’s New IMAX Poster

Who’s ready to watch the spice flow in ultra-high definition? Now that Dune’s release is finally on the horizon, Warner Bros. (via Collider) is plugging the film’s debut in IMAX theaters with a new poster featuring Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) making his way across Arrakis’ harsh desert terrain. You can check it out for yourself below.

Dune is still scheduled to premiere on HBO Max day-and-date with theaters in less than two months. Regardless, the filmmakers (particularly director Denis Villeneuve) seem eager for moviegoers to experience it on the big(ger) screen. The film was shot using IMAX-certified cameras that will allow some of its scenes to be presented in an aspect ratio of 1.90:1 or 1.43:1 in select theaters. This tech also ups the resolution, presumably giving viewers the chance to count all the individual grains of sand on the planet’s surface.

Although Villeneuve ultimately agreed to Dune’s hybrid release model, he’s still not happy that some fans will choose to stream the movie at home. During a recent interview with Total Film, he compared watching the movie on TV to “[driving] a speedboat in your bathtub.”

This Friday, September 3, Dune will have its world premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival. However, it won’t compete for any of the event’s prizes. The movie is also scheduled to play at the Toronto International Film Festival later that month, where it will host its first-ever IMAX screening at the legendary Cinesphere.

Dune will hit theaters and HBO Max on October 22.
