Kevin Feige Teases Plans For Shang-Chi Sequels

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is still a few days away from hitting theaters. But like always, Marvel Studios is already thinking about what lies ahead. In a new interview with ComicBook.com, Kevin Feige shared that the filmmakers are already kicking around ideas for another movie starring Simu Liu’s master of kung fu.

Most of the early reviews for Shang-Chi have been positive so far, and this isn’t lost on Feige. Regardless, the studio chief remains “confident and nervous in equal proportions” about what the future holds.

“The early reactions to the characters and to [the movie] itself gives me great hope that people will want to see more of these characters,” said Feige. “We certainly have many ideas of where to take them and where to put them. And as exactly as you say, what’s so fun, we know the movie’s working when it’s not just the title character that people ask about, but it is the co0stars or the supporting players that people ask about. And in this movie in particular, that’s heartening because we think they’re spectacular, and we think they have great potential in the future.”

Luckily, all the key players sound game to return for a potential Shang-Chi follow-up. Liu previously hinted that the first film leaves the door open for another installment. His co-star, Awkwafina, also expressed her hope to continue exploring the relationship between Shang and her own character, Katy. And in an earlier interview, director Destin Daniel Cretton refused to go into detail about Shang-Chi‘s deleted scenes because one of them features a mysterious location that could eventually show up in a sequel.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings opens on September 3.
