Disney Confirms Eternals’ Exclusive Theatrical Window

It looks like Marvel’s day-and-date streaming release experiment began and ended with Black Widow. Because according to Deadline, Eternals is going straight to theaters. Just like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the next MCU feature will have an exclusive 45-day run on the big screen before it eventually makes its way onto Disney+.

This announcement comes just a few days after Shang-Chi’s record-breaking debut. Throughout the extended Labor Day weekend, the film made over $94 million domestic, giving it the second-best opening of the year. Its worldwide total currently sits at more than $166 million. Considering these impressive numbers, it makes sense that Marvel is pushing ahead with theatrical exclusives.

The rest of Disney’s 2021 film slate is following suit. Alongside Eternals, Disney also confirmed that a handful of 20th Century projects, including The Last Duel, Ron’s Gone Wrong, West Side Story, and The King’s Man will have their own 45-day runs in theaters. Meanwhile, Disney’s next big animated movie, Encanto, will screen in theaters for 30 days before it hits Disney+ on December 24.
